Artificial light at night (ALAN) is disorientating for nocturnal seabirds like shearwaters and petrels. As a result, they often 'fall out' in urban centers, or on brightly lit vessels. This can injure them and expose them to other risks such as predators.

This project seeks to determine if nocturnal seabirds respond differently to different types and wavelengths of light at night. We hope to identify particular lights that impact seabirds less, so that these can be implemented to reduce seabird fallout.
